Our Commitment
We believe that anyone who works with music — producers, composers, educators, students, DJs, sound designers — deserves access to tools and information that support their work regardless of disability, device, or technical setup.
BPM-Calculator.com aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the internationally recognised standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. Identified barriers are addressed through our own review or user feedback.
Current Accessibility Status
BPM-Calculator.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Known gaps are disclosed below.
What we have implemented
Keyboard navigation. Core site navigation — menus, links, and page structure — is accessible via keyboard. Tab key to navigate, Enter to activate.
Text readability. Body text at minimum 16px with sufficient line spacing. Heading levels follow correct hierarchical order (H1, H2, H3) throughout, allowing screen readers to navigate content structure logically.
Colour contrast. Text and background colour combinations meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 Level AA minimum ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
Descriptive link text. Links describe their destination — no generic “click here” or “read more.”
Alt text on images. Meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes.
Responsive design. The site adapts to all screen sizes without horizontal scrolling at 200% zoom.
No auto-playing media. No audio plays automatically without user action.
Page titles. Every page has a unique, descriptive title tag.
Skip navigation link. A “Skip to content” link is available at the top of every page.
Fully Accessible Tools
The majority of BPM-Calculator.com’s core tools are fully accessible to users who cannot hear or who do not have a microphone:
BPM Calculator — accepts a typed BPM value and produces a complete timing table as structured text. Input fields have associated labels. All results are text output. Fully keyboard accessible and screen reader compatible.
BPM to Milliseconds Converter — typed numeric input, text output. No audio. Fully keyboard accessible.
Tempo Markings Reference — a reference lookup tool with typed or selected input and text output. No audio. Fully keyboard accessible.
Tap Tempo — BPM is calculated from the timing of keyboard input (spacebar or Enter) or mouse clicks. No audio, no microphone. The tap button is keyboard accessible and the BPM result is displayed as text. Screen reader users receive the same numerical output as sighted users.
These tools represent the primary calculation and measurement functionality of the site and are usable without any audio capability.
Known Limitations
Audio Beat Detection
The audio beat detection tool requires microphone access or an uploaded audio file, and produces a BPM result by analysing sound content.
Hearing dependency for meaningful use. The tool produces a numerical BPM result displayed as text — accessible to screen readers. However, meaningful verification of the result typically requires hearing the track to confirm whether the detected tempo or its half-time/double-time equivalent is correct. Users who cannot hear the music cannot independently confirm the accuracy of the result.
Real-time display. If the tool displays a continuously updating BPM reading during live microphone analysis, these rapid updates may not be announced by screen readers during active analysis. The final confirmed BPM result is the accessible output.
Microphone permission prompt. The browser permission prompt is a native browser UI element outside this site’s control. Its accessibility depends on the browser being used.
Timing Tables
The BPM Calculator produces timing tables with multiple rows and columns of numeric data. Tables include proper header markup and are navigable by screen readers using standard table navigation commands. We are reviewing whether additional ARIA labels would improve the navigation experience for screen reader users with large tables.
Third-Party Advertising
If advertising is added to this site in future, accessibility of individual ad creatives will be outside our direct control as ads are provided by third-party advertisers.

For users who cannot use the audio-dependent beat detection tool, the following are fully accessible without audio:
